KOHALA "GOLD COAST" RESORTS
While the number of visitors to the Big Island has been increasing, hotel occupancy has actually been decreasing. Many visitors love the amenities at the resorts, but prefer to have the more spacious accommodations of a rental condo or house rather than a hotel room. If you are considering buying a condo as a vacation or retirement home, staying in one is a perfect way to experience the lifestyle.
MAUNA KEA RESORT
The first of the Kohala Coast Resorts and still a quiet world apart. The two hotels, the restored and reopened Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and the nearby Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, are both operated by Prince Resorts Hawaii. You will find a surprising number of condos and homes for rent by owner at VacationRentalsByOwner.com. Kulalani and Wai'ulaula are the two newer condominium projects which might be of interest to prospective buyers.
MAUNA LANI RESORT
There are two wonderful hotels at the Mauna Lani Resort, and new shops and restaurants at the Shops at Mauna Lani. You can stay in the hotel or in a private bungalow at the Mauna Lani Hotel and Bungalows. Your other choice is the Fairmont Orchid . You can also search MLS listings to get an idea of where you might like to purchase, and then look for a vacation rental there.
