Moving to the Big Island Tips
Moving to the west or north side of the Big Island of Hawai'i? For specifics about your move, here are some tips.
KONAWEB
The most helpful resource we've encountered for getting all your questions answered is an on-line community called KonaWeb. They have a very active Moving to the Big Island Forum where recent arrivals answer questions from future arrivals. The bad news is they don't have any archives to search, but in a way that's good news because you will always get the most current information and start forming friendships in the process!
BRINGING YOUR ANIMAL FRIENDS
You'll need to study the Hawaii Health Department website for information about Animal Quarantine and how to avoid it if possible! (Hint: you'll need six months lead time.) Animal Quarantine Laws is the link. This applies mainly to dogs and cats.
For information about shipping horses, there was a good article in the May 2008 issue of Malama Lio, The Hawaii Horse Journal. You can also request a copy from us.
STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?
